Closer view of Babbage's portrait. This is reportedly
the last image taken of him. At this time in his life I think
you can see the effect of the setbacks he experienced in trying
top bring his dream to life.
Also visible are the
components making up the print output unit. There are paper
rolls for capturing the output. This was designed years before
the typewriter. Directly under the rolls is a flat plate which
would hold the plaster cast for receiving impressions of the
calculation results for casting of book plates.
